How to politely say no gifts on an invitation

EasyInvite Team. We make the invitation pages at EasyInvite. Last updated October 2026.

Say what you want people to do. 'Your presence is enough' is vague, and half the room still shows up with a bag.

Baby shower

Please don't bring a gift to the house. If you want to give something, the registry button is the list we actually need.

We've bought the big things. A card is plenty. If that's awkward, diapers in size 1 are the running joke that is also true.

Wedding

We have a kitchen and a couch. Please come to the dinner. Gifts, even generous ones, are not what this invitation is asking for.

No boxed gifts at the venue, the coat check can't hold them. If you had budgeted for one, dinner with us later is the thing we'd rather have.

Kids' birthday

Nora has a small room and a lot of toys. Please bring nothing but Nora's friend. A book to donate to her classroom is welcome if coming empty-handed feels odd.

Friendsgiving

Don't buy a host gift. Bring a side if you want a job, or just bring yourself. Reply so we know how many plates.

On a baby shower or birthday invitation you can paste a registry URL and it shows as a button, which is clearer than a no-gifts sentence alone.
